A new addition to your counter is the capability to add a
password; this is of course IF you want to?
You can only do this when you first create the counter if
you ever want this feature in the future and you have not
entered a password then I am afraid you will need to create
a new counter, if you do not want a password then just simply
leave the sign up fields blank, statistics will then remain
publicly available if also you select them.
Once you enter the password do not
forget it!
Make your password difficult to guess!
What if I do not want a password?
1. If you have selected the use of statistics they will be
publicly available to everyone that guesses your counter name!
2. You will not be able to gain access to any higher functions
we build into the counter in the future i.e. it is planned
to add the capability to reset your counter back to zero (if
you want) we would not allow this capability in counters that
are not password protected.
3. You will not see any further menu functions on your account
if you do not have a password.
What if I do decide to use a
password?
When this page was written (23/09/2005) we had just installed
this capability of adding passwords! It is intended for this
counter to advance and allow a lot of higher functionality!
If you add a password to your account you can expect "AT
MINIMUM" the following:
1. The capability to change your counter number at any time
including reset!
2. The capability to change your password!
3. The capability to reset your statistics (if installed),
i.e. start from scratch again!
4. The capability to have or not have statistics!
What if I have an existing counter?
If you already have an existing counter I am afraid it cannot
be updated! You will need to create a new counter, i.e. if
your counter name was "counter" you could change
it to "counter2" you don't have to do this straight
away but it is worth keeping in mind and it is worth doing
if you want to take advantage of all the new higher functions
when they come along, we have had lot's of users wanting to
be able to simply change their counter total and this can
not be done due to security implications on accounts without
passwords.
The above are just a few examples of what will be available
and is intended on accounts or counters that DO have a password,
this is just an overview and there are a lot more higher functions
planned.
If you do not password protect your account then this and
many more intended functions will not be available to you
now or in the future and you will need to create a new counter
in order to get these extra's.
Note: you should consider using a password even if you
do not want statistics or any other function, if you are in
any doubt or if you may want statistics in the future or there
is any remote possibility you may want to reset your counter
back to zero even as a safeguard then please use a password
if you do not enter a password the counter is considered throw
away and you will not be able to change anything, and please
do not contact us regarding this as there is nothing we can
do! just create a new counter using passwords.
